Overview:
The BLM Cedar City Field Office is responsible for the management of 2.1 million acres in Southwest Utah. The diversity of resources and issues surrounding the natural and cultural resources provide many opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-agency projects. Interns will gain exposure to federal cultural resource management practices as well as the variety of artifacts and site types located in southern Utah. The 2019 summer season will primarily consist of archaeological field surveys for various multi-use projects across the Field Office. Interns will occasionally assist other disciplines, such as Range and Recreation on various fieldwork projects to gain interdisciplinary experience.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist BLM archaeologist with archaeological field surveys, site monitoring, and site recording for various multi-use projects
- Data entry of field findings
- Participate in BLM public outreach events and conservation education
- Occasionally assist BLM Range and Recreation Specialists with various fieldwork projects
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in an outdoor setting
- Capable of hiking across uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions carrying field equipment and personal supplies
- Upon completion of training, ability of collect and enter basic archaeological site and artifact data into Utah Archaeology Site Form (e.g. GPS, GIS, photos, etc)
